Entice Inspiration! – Favourite Romantic Moments

Happy Tuesday! And here we are again with our Entice Inspiration week web post . . .

Did you ever watch a film or read a book and feel especially moved or touched by a specific romantic moment? Dare we say – inspired? There are scenes from pop-culture that form the base of wedding proposals, grand gestures and even song lyrics. It might inspire you to think of your favourite romantic moments in relation to your own writing!

The Editors have come together to discuss their favourite romantic moments. See below (they might surprise you)!

Anna Boatman, Piatkus Fiction Senior Editor:

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: When Darcy shows his softer side, ‘my dearest, loveliest Elizabeth’.

Love Actually: When he shows Kiera Knightly that he loves her via those boards.

Bridges of Madison County:  All of it, really, but particularly the moment at the end when you just want to scream, ‘get out of the car!!!’

Caroline Kirkpatrick, Piatkus Fiction Assistant Editor

Four Weddings and a Funeral: THAT kiss in the rain between Charles and Carrie. Soooo romantic! The ultimate happy-ever-after!

Clueless: Again, it’s a kiss! This time between Cher and Josh. After the ‘will they, won’t they get together’ agony throughout the entire film, you just love that heart-warming moment when they finally do!

Edward Scissorhands: Slightly offbeat, but  it’s really cute when Kim realises that she is in love with Edward, despite how different they are and her initial prejudices towards him.

Grace Menary-Winefield, Piatkus Editorial Assistant:

The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman: Will and Lyra’s picnic by the river and the tender, innocent feeding of the fruit. The idea that their love can rip in a hole in the entire universe is really the most romantic idea one could think of.

Garden State: Large and Sam’s conversation by the fire and his hesitant confession about his mother and the latch on the washing machine.  ‘I can tap dance, do you want to see me tap dance?’ ‘I would love to see you tap dance . . .’

Pretty in Pink: Duckie’s own brand of seduction with Try a Little Tenderness. Who hasn’t secretly hoped the movie would end differently with Molly Ringwald walking into the sunset with her best friend?
