Ten Things I’ve Learned About Writing Romance: Phillippa Ashley

Today sees the arrival of Phillippa Ashley on Entice with brand new ebook Miranda’s Mount. We fell instantly in love with this author’s funny, sexy style of writing and hope you will too.

Here Phillippa tells us ten things she’s learned about writing romance . . .

1. No other job gives you a legitimate excuse to Google photos of gorgeous men for inspiration/book covers/motivation.

2. No other job gives you a reason to ask strangers inappropriate questions in the interests of research.

3. Inspiration could strike at any moment and once an idea seizes you, nothing will get in your way until you have written the story down. (This is what happened with Miranda’s Mount.)

4. At some point you will be tempted to follow a strange man down the street because he looks *exactly* like your hero (This hasn’t happened yet with Miranda’s Mount but I’m ready for the moment.)

5. Constantly thinking about romance has ‘fringe benefits’ for your partner to make up for all the times they cooked dinner/watched TV/had a conversation with you while you were on another, fictional planet.

6. Your neighbours, old school friends and your partner’s colleagues will often confuse fiction with fact.

7. You never stop learning the craft of writing, developing characters and narrative structure.

8. The answer to every plot problem can be found in the three letter word: WHY but you’ll still forget to ask it often enough while writing the book.

9. Writing romance looks incredibly easy but is frustratingly difficult.

10. It is also the best job in the world.
