Entice author Phillippa Ashley tells us why she loves ebooks

Phillippa Ashley’s brand new contemporary romance, Miranda’s Mount, is available in ebook from Entice now. Here she tells us exactly what it is that she loves about ebooks . . .

When I first began writing romance – actually, not so very long ago – the ebook was a rare and exotic beast. My first few novels were published in paperback because that’s the way books had always been made available. Slowly, gradually, ebooks became more popular… then the Kindle was launched and the floodgates opened.

Like many new relationships, I wasn’t entirely sure of how my affair with my Kindle would go at first. Would I ever get used to this new and unfamiliar way of enjoying my favourite pastime (reading, I hasten to add, what were you thinking?) My husband had even bought me a device with a sensual leather cover, so I had no excuse not to give it a thorough trial.

At first it was strange, clicking through the pages, watching the text grow at the touch of a button and making late night forays onto Amazon to satisfy my thirst for fiction.

Miranda's Mount by Phillipa AshleyNow I’m a total a convert.

You see, I’m an impatient devil. When I want to read a novel, I want it now. Maybe I’ve been hooked by the blurb or extract or heard about the book on Twitter. My Kindle lets me get instant gratification (and who doesn’t love that?)

I also read more books than I used to because e books are almost always cheaper than paperbacks – and that’s great for me as an author as well as a reader. Then there’s the fabulous thing that is free ebooks. I’ve discovered several new authors this way.
I’m off to Cyprus soon and I love the fact that I’ll be able to take my entire bookshelf with me not have to pay excess baggage. I don’t have *quite* so many paperbacks teetering by my bed these days or bowing down my shelves. My husband likes that too, as he was in danger of being felled by a pile of print at one point.

And while I’ve never been faint-hearted about being spotted on the train reading a ‘naughty’ book or even one that’s popular, I can now enjoy my reading pleasures in private, without being judged by less enlightened eyes.

No, I can’t imagine a world without e books, can you?
