A Day in the Life . . . Caroline Kirkpatrick, Assistant Editor

As another day dawns, another Entice Editor starts her day. Take another look at the women behind the curtain with our second edition of Day in the Life . . . , this time with Piatkus Fiction Assistant Editor Caroline Kirkpatrick!

Wednesday:

9:00 am – After spending half an hour on the District line like a tightly-packed sardine, I make it into the gorgeous Unilever building at 100 Embankment (we’re featuring in the Open House weekend this Saturday and Sunday if you fancy coming down and seeing how lovely it is), ready to enjoy a cappuccino from the plush coffee machines we are lucky enough to have in our office. Then it’s time to check emails, attend to the morning admin and prepare for the day ahead.

10:30 am – Today is our fortnightly cover meeting, when we have the opportunity to put forward our ideas for how the cover of one of our author’s books might look. It’s a really collaborative process and it’s lovely to share both the author’s and my ideas with the design team in this meeting. It’s also really exciting to know that they’ll be a fabulous cover in a few weeks’ time to share with my author!

12 noon  – Time for our editorial meeting, where we take forward new and brilliant books that we hope to acquire. It’s so thrilling  when you read something that you really love and feel passionate about, something that you can’t wait to share with your colleagues. It’s great to get their feedback and, fingers crossed, if everyone is on board have the opportunity to try and acquire the book.

1:00 pm – I head off to meet one of my authors and her agent for lunch. It’s the first time we’ve met in person, having worked together via the phone and email over the last year, and it’s so lovely to celebrate her achievements over a glass of champagne and a delicious meal. We also have the chance to talk about her latest projects, brain storm titles and plot lines and generally have a good old catch-up!

4:00 pm – Anna, Grace and I are judging the Piatkus Entice competition at the moment and it’s so fantastic to read all the new talent coming our way. Anna has kindly supplied us with chocolate and cookies, so well-fueled and with lots of mugs of tea, we sit down to enjoy reading the submissions .  . .  and can’t wait to find the next big talent that will be published by Piatkus Entice.

5:30pm – Time to head off for the night after a day in the world of romance. Maybe I’ll meet my very own Price Charming on the tube journey home . .  .
