Background
Research indicates that students benefit, in terms of performance, from approaches that focus on breaking exam papers and questions down into manageable, lower-stakes portions. They do these, initially slowly, while being guided to unpick the elements of each step to success, see the potential pitfalls and avoid them. This step-by-step approach builds skills that they can then apply in real scenarios.

Based on this research, we have split the papers into 4 smaller practice papers, each focused on a different question type in order to exemplify and teach skills. It might be helpful for teachers to use the resource for assessment for learning purposes, to find the gaps in the students’ understanding and fill them. This means that after each engagement session, teachers can usefully plan follow-up activities.

A touching, humorous account of the author’s cultural reckoning with his Korean heritage and hidden family secrets.

A surprising diagnosis of PTSD led Dave Gibbons to look to his past for clues to explain the unexpected result.

Born to an American soldier and a Korean mother in the wake of the Korean War, Dave has spent his life struggling to blend his Korean roots and his very American upbringing. The family joins a conservative church that embraces a strict, rule-based faith, and they try to navigate life as one of the few mixed-raced families in their community. But when tragedy strikes, tearing the family apart, Dave is forced to face long- buried secrets that he can no longer ignore.

As he explores his family’s difficult past, he confronts his own pain and the persistent feelings of not quite fitting in either in America or his mother’s home country. And when a DNA test ultimately reveals a truth that shatters everything he understood about his history, he begins the journey to reconcile his American upbringing with his deep Korean roots, and he is forced to confront the traumas he unknowingly carried.

The Shape of My Eyes beautifully weaves historic reference points of the oppression and discrimination against Asian Americans with Dave’s own personal story. Dave’s wrestling with belonging in his family, in America, and in the church creates a raw, thought-provoking memoir about race, religion and finding home.

Meet Gabby Greene: Housewife. Glorified taxi driver and maid. Burner of meatloaf.

Recently divorced Gabby Greene spends most of her days listening to self-help books while wrangling her loving yet erratic kids. During a decade of marriage, Gabby shoved aside her own career and ambitions to make room for mountains of laundry, running errands, and investigating the case of the missing socks. Her number one suspect: their Bichon Frise, Mr. Bubbles.

All that changes when a secret government agency comes knocking on Gabby’s door, asking her to go undercover. At first, she thinks some reality show is pranking her, but apparently, she bears a striking resemblance to an agent recently murdered, and… well, desperate missions call for desperate measures. Soon Gabby is juggling motherhood and a crash course in Spying 101, led by a handsome James Bond-type who has secrets of his own.

As Gabby embarks on a dangerous mission involving money laundering, a Russian oligarch, and an unfortunate incident with a prosthetic nose, she begins to realize that she is far from the invisible housewife she once believed herself to be, and that maybe, just maybe, she might be capable of saving the day.

In the tradition of Argo, The Wizard of Lies, and Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, a book that expands upon the HBO docuseries, McMillion$, with new, exclusive interviews and stories that couldn’t make it into the series.

In March of 2001, Federal prosecutor Mark Devereaux cold-called Rob Holm, the head of security for McDonald’s Corporation. Without explanation, Devereaux asked that Holm and several other McDonald’s senior executives plan a visit to the Jacksonville, Florida, FBI, and tell no one about their intended destination. It wasn’t up for discussion. Upon their arrival, Devereaux watched them closely, looking at body language, checking for tells. To him, they were all potential suspects.

Once they were seated in an unremarkable conference room, sealed away in the hyper-secure FBI building, Devereaux began to lay out a shocking conspiracy, one that ran deep into McDonald’s most beloved promotions: the Monopoly game. This is where they began to discover from 1989 to 2001, almost every high-value prize winner was actually illegitimate. But how could this happen and who all was behind it? A rookie FBI agent and a brilliant undercover operation led them to one man who brilliantly crafted a near-infallible nationwide conspiracy for fraud.

Expanded from the wildly popular HBO docuseries with major new interviews, MCMILLIONS traces this massive crime, the intricate web of lies that bolstered it, and the tireless work of the FBI agents that unraveled it all. It is a story littered with tragedy: families torn apart, betrayals, financial ruin, and one suspicious car crash. Yet, there are bright spots in the hijinks of the FBI agents and their co-conspirators. Ultimately, it is a story of what happens when the American dream goes very wrong.

Hardcover
From internationally renowned expert in resuscitation and near-death experience Sam Parnia, MD, PhD, comes a groundbreaking look at what happens to us when we die, based on the largest-ever research study run on near-death experiences

What happens to us when we die?
For millennia, we’ve sought the answers, and we’ve hoped to find them in near-death experiences. But while those answers have come haphazardly and can’t be trusted, groundbreaking research is now formalizing our understanding of death in new and thrilling ways. At the frontlines of that research is Dr. Sam Parnia.
Lucid Dying is the first book to formally explore what happens to the human mind and consciousness not only in the period leading up to death, but also during and after death. Using data derived from multiple scientific studies, Dr. Parnia shows that the entity we refer to as consciousness-our Self-does not seem to become annihilated at the moment of death. In fact, during death, our consciousness follows a very specific narrative arc, in which we relive our lives not only from our own experiences, but from the perspective of everyone we’ve interacted with. What follows is a purposeful review of our own actions, thoughts, and intentions towards others.
These studies also show that there is a universal experience of death that is meaningful, transcendent, positive, and transformative-not hallucinatory, delusional, or illusory as previously imagined. With empirical research and gripping anecdotes that explore the notion of a collective unconsciousness. Dr. Parnia shows how we can access this deeper wisdom to lead more intentional lives.

Three women.

When she was twelve, Leyna Clarke watched her older sister, Grace, walk away from their Sierra Nevada foothills home with her boyfriend, Adam Duran. Neither was ever seen again. Sixteen years later, a stranger who looks like Grace shows up at the restaurant where Leyna works-and vanishes soon after. When it comes out that Leyna was one of the last people to have talked with the young woman, Leyna’s childhood crush Dominic, who is also Adam’s brother, pleads with her to do the last thing she wants to do: come home.

Three secrets.

But Leyna isn’t the only one who hasn’t been able to leave that fateful night behind. Her mother, Meredith, still lives in the family’s old home-even if she claims to believe the police’s theory that Grace and Adam were willing runaways. Down the street, Adam and Dominic’s mother Olivia has also stayed, determined to be there when her son finally returns. . . and to prove that Meredith and Leyna have been hiding something all these years. But the past isn’t the only threat to the two families, or the missing girl. As a wildfire sparks, tempers flare and intentions turn deadly. Because someone in the neighbourhood knows what really happened that night-and just how good the forest is at keeping its secrets.

A brand-new visual odyssey from Accidentally Wes Anderson, authorised by the legendary filmmaker, taking readers on stunning adventures to every continent and sharing oddly moving human tales along the way.

AWA is back with a new book full of incredible real photos that look plucked from the world of Wes Anderson – sharing dozens of idiosyncratic stories that make each place unique.

You’ll venture to Antarctica through the Drake Passage, make a stop in lesser-known Jincumbilly, Australia (where there are more platypuses than people), travel the backroads of Vermont, and drop into one of the oddest umbrella shops of London.

But no matter where or how the adventure unfolds, it’s nothing without the people who make it memorable. Here, we share the stories of communities and characters who come to life as vividly as the photos themselves.

· You’ll meet the father of American skydiving, who created the officially sanctioned centre of the world – a Californian town with a population of two.
· You’ll visit the ‘post office at the end of the world’ in Tierra del Fuego – and meet the mustachioed letter carrier who, in his free time, runs an anarchist island micronation called Redonda.
· And you’ll travel to a town in the Arctic Circle where cats are not allowed, humans cannot be buried, and a primary attraction is a doomsday vault containing the recipe for the Oreo cookie.

Thank you for exploring!

Sorority mom Becca Fairfield is used to guys not taking her seriously. She’s too blond, too quirky, or Just. Too. Much. Now with the holidays and a major blizzard on her doorstep, Becca has everything she needs to survive the next two weeks on her own.
